Only in Europe – and still today – is the three-year degree better known than the four-year BBA. In question, the format between bac + 3 and master (bac +5) of the latter, which does not lend itself well to the continuation of studies in French fashion. Rather, the diploma intends to respect the most common scheme in Great Britain and the United States, i.e. four years of study, part of professional life and, if affinity, a return to school to complete a two-year MBA (Master in Business Administration).
French schools are adapting to correct this small flaw in the program. At Neoma BS we rely on partnerships: “4 + 1 agreements are signed with the best Business Schools. They allow our students to continue their masters studies with partners such as HEC Montreal, Cranfield University in the UK or IE Business School in Madrid, “explains Céline Davesne, Neoma Deputy Director General in charge of international programs and affairs. French students who can pursue a master’s degree in one year instead of two.
Studies without borders
If there is one point to know about the BBA, it is its international dimension. You will almost always study there in English, in classes of dozens of nationalities.
“We offer our students the opportunity to start their 1st year in English, with two thirds of international teachers. Strengthened language courses are offered to reach a level that allows expatriation from the 2nd year ”, explains Céline Davesne. And it is precisely the intercultural aspect that convinced Félicien Botrel to join the Global BBA of the Skema Business School: “In addition to the courses, it is this whole universe that I have come to seek, the comparison with other points of view and mentality”, explains the ‘one who says “wanting to know more about people than about a job”.
Félicien Botrel contributes to the diversity of career paths by bringing his atypical experience: “I worked for six years in the transport sector. What I do at Skema is a change of life ”, he comments. In his sights, international relations. “I’ve already targeted some very interesting masters 2,” he says.
The calculation is simple: “We can deliver richer content in four years than in three,” says Marc Gibiat, director of degree programs at Audencia in Nantes.
A well attended course
The school, which already offers a three-year classical degree, has chosen to launch a four-year format, in collaboration with the Centrale Nantes engineering school. And for a very specific reason: the educational content of BBA Big Data and Management is too dense to be absorbed in the context of a simple degree. “It’s a three-stage missile that leads to a complete hybridization of skills,” announces the program director. Namely, three first semesters dedicated to fundamental knowledge, shared between Audencia and Centrale; two more entirely dedicated to data, in Casablanca, followed by another six months in China (Shenzhen) before returning to France. Everything is interspersed with internships and taught in English.
“For thirty years I have seen brilliant students torn between economics and engineering. They no longer have to choose ”, Marc Gibiat rejoices. But it is certain that four years will not be too long.
Le Parisien Etudiant – special “Bachelor (bac + 3)” 2022
“The profile of the resourceful globetrotter”
3 questions to Pascal Krupka – Director of Programs of EM Normandie
What is the typical profile of a BBA student?
He is a globetrotter, used to living in a multicultural environment and with a strong taste for the discovery of others. On a professional level, he does not yet specialize in a field and takes time to find out. He finds in the BBA both a generalist and international curriculum that allows him to go abroad, which he is not afraid to do because he is full of resources!
What experiences will he have?
We will mobilize all the resources of our school for him. He will start with two years on our new Paris campus, before spending one in Oxford and the last in Dubai (which opens in September 2022). Enough to offer stimulating encounters with both local and global professionals and companies.
What are the career opportunities?
Unlike graduates, those with a BBA mainly enter the job market. They find employers everywhere interested in hiring them: in China, in the United States and in Europe. Their salary is very similar to that of a bac +5, as are the functions they occupy. Typically, they start as country managers for companies looking to open up a new market and looking for a framework that can adapt to all terrains.
