Abidjan (AIP) – Women entrepreneurs today in Ivory Coast are looking for opportunities in terms of technical support, the president of the board of directors (PCA) of the SEPHHIS Foundation, Séfora Kodjo, assured Saturday 29 October 2022 in Abidjan, on the occasion of the 7th edition of the program “African women of the future scholarship” (AWF), promoted by GIZ as part of the Invest for jobs project.
Ms Kodjo highlighted the difficulties encountered by women in self-employment, in particular the obstacles to the structuring of their business, their financial education, the management of their staff, the abandonment of the informal sector, access to economic opportunities. . “They finally realized that they actually need to be accompanied and the accompaniment starts first with the training. What do we give them through the AWF program, ”she said.
She explained that the AWF program is a leadership and mentorship program dedicated to female entrepreneurs. “We support 72 SMEs per year and make two voices. This is the second school year, so we have 36 female entrepreneurs who for the next three weeks will be on the campus of the program to be equipped on their entrepreneurial journey to improve their personal and professional growth skills ”, assured Ms. Kodjo.
She welcomed the positive results of the program which increasingly takes into account highly technical women, particularly in construction, energy and real estate. “We have women who came to us with kraft paper products who now have quality packaging products that are sold by large supermarkets, which shows that their journey has been a success,” she noted.
According to her, the program has facilitated access to funding for women of up to 60 million FCFA to enable them to acquire equipment. “Today the quality of what they produce has evolved because they have had equipment. We are also very satisfied because when women leave the AWF program, there is their personal development, the development of the company but also behind the benefits in terms of job creation, “said Séfora.
For the director of the Invest for jobs program, Marc Levesque, what interests his structure, “is to develop entrepreneurship, leadership among women in order to reduce the quality and competence of these young women so that they can acquire property, capital, hire people “.
He is satisfied with the good momentum which is in line with the programme’s objective. “This is the seventh experience with SEPHIS groupe. There is a very good dynamic, there are about 120 young women who have gone through this incubator and who have managed to develop businesses and have managed to create a lot of jobs, “he said.
The AWF program was designed to meet the needs of female entrepreneurs who struggle to find a sustainable place in the private sector, she points out.
