After the first preview on June 24, the new operating system offers some significant and functional changes compared to Windows 10.
Let’s see what the changes are for your current or future computer. As you can see, the compatibility remains very broad.
Minimum system requirements
- Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster clock with two or more cores in a compatible 64-bit processor or system on a single chip (SoC). Microsoft lists all AMD, Intel and Qualcomm processors supported by Windows 11.
- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Storage space: 64 GB or more (same amount as Windows 10)
- Graphics Card: DirectX 12 / WDDM 2.x compatible card
- Screen: 9 “definition or larger HD 720p
- S mode only supports the Home version of Windows 11. If you are using another version of Windows in S mode, you will need to exit S mode first before upgrading.
- Windows 11 does not specifically support first-generation AMD Ryzen processors, but it also does not support those from Intel that were produced before the Coffee Lake generation. So everything in the Ryzen 1000 series or Kaby Lake 7th Gen range is not listed to work on Windows 11.
Microsoft provides an application to install on your PC PC to determine its compatibility with Windows 11 requirements.
Your computer accessories
In addition to your computer, peripherals – printer, scanner, external drive – will also need to be compatible with Windows 11. Microsoft writes “if your accessories work with Windows 10 and meet the requirements of the Windows 11 system, they must work with Windows 11 Windows 11. If you want to be sure, check with your accessory manufacturer. »
Very old and incompatible computer
If your PC does not meet the requirements of Windows 11, you may continue to use your current version of Windows 10. Microsoft is committed to supporting Windows 10 until October 14, 2025.
When will Windows 11 be available?
Upgrades to Windows 11 will begin to be released by the end of 2021. It is the Windows Update feature that will give you instructions on when your computer will qualify. You can check it by going to Settings> Windows Update.
Go back to Windows 10 if you do not like Windows 11?
Microsoft writes that “after installing the Windows 11 update, there is a ten-day period where you can return to Windows 10 by saving the files and data that you transferred during the installation. After this ten-day period, you will need to make a backup your data and do a “clean install” to get back to Windows 10.
Windows 11 is free, but only computers running Windows 10 that currently use the latest version of Windows 10 and meet the minimum hardware specifications can be upgraded.
Windows 11 beta test
From Monday, June 28, it will be possible to download the beta version of Windows 11.
Microsoft has made it a point of honor to offer the highest quality game in its future operating system.
With the AutoHDR feature, a game will no longer need to have integrated support to manage HDR image quality, says giant Redmond. For its part, DirectStorage will be able to rely on the exceptional performance of NVMe-type SSD storage to transfer tons of data per second to the graphics card. In other words, your computer should have the latest in storage.
However, we do know that DirectStorage will be compatible and will work with PCIe 3.0 SSDs, not just the latest PCIe 4.0 drives.
That said, sites like PC Gamer seem to say that the Health Check compatibility app mentioned above drastically limits the most capable machines. At the moment, this is the big black spot in this new version of Windows, which is supposed to promise sea and world to the powerful and very large community of players on this platform.
It is hoped that Microsoft will adapt the shoot to the requirements related to the game features of Windows 11. Otherwise, many gamers will ignore Windows 11 to keep version 10.
New user interface
Existing windows have a new look and the frozen glass effect has been revised for some overlapping panels. The start button has been moved, the widgets are back, so the feedback has been positive so far on the computer sites.
Softer, the windows no longer have the square corners we were used to, but the rounded corners.
The other big change is moving the taskbar to the middle of the screen, instead of getting stuck in the lower left corner. But do not worry, you can restore it to its original state as in Windows 10 by pressing a button on the taskbar settings screen.
Finally, it will be possible to manage windows by occupying one-third or one-fourth of the screen. Right-clicking on the maximization icon displays a drop-down range that allows you to select the layout of different windows.
Store new apps and games
The new version of Microsoft Store is taking over and will be accessible to both Windows 11 and 10 users.
Not only will it be possible to run Android apps and games on your Windows 11 PC, but also those from the Amazon Store. Indeed, this compatibility has been made possible by Intel’s Bridge technology. And for those whose computer runs on processors
More than a simple upgrade, Windows 11 will offer better task management, a nicer interface, and a more generous application store. AMD, this will work as well.
