It does not exist yet, yet it is already surrounded by big names: Xavier Niel (Iliad), Bernard Arnault (LVMH), Pierre-Edouard Stérin (Smartbox) … Albert School’s army of supporters continues to grow, from the future The business data-driven school announces a new fundraiser of eight million euros, with eight founders of French unicorns. Among these new partners are Payfit, Veepee, Contentsquare, VestiaireCollective, Voodoo, Jellysmack and ManoMano.
The project for this new structure: “Create the talents of the economy of tomorrow”, as Grégoire Genest explains. With its two partners, this Polytechnic, already an entrepreneur in the past (Neos, a payment solution sold to Lyf Pay), has imagined a training course for managers, both business and data oriented.
“The economy has been completely transformed by technology, from start-ups to unicorns for some. This also applies to large groups, which need talent as part of their digital transformation. We were immediately contacted by French entrepreneurs, especially unicorn creators, who loved the project “he explains, underlining the need for well-trained technical profiles, the lack of which is well known on the labor market. His goal: to respond to this, with hybrid profiles between business and data.
60 students in the first class
So what will this future school be like? Albert School will open its doors next September, with a first Parisian campus of 2,700 square meters, located in a former terracotta factory in the 10th arrondissement.
For their first graduation promotion, the three co-founders are aiming for 60 students to start. Somewhat special profiles, in fact! “We recruit high school graduates with a real affinity for math who are also attracted to the business world. They don’t see themselves becoming an engineer, but they don’t want to lose data and math even in the commercial sector “, says Grégoire Genest. The hiring takes place outside Parcoursup, with an online test and an oral interview.
Each semester of this degree will consist of three main blocks: data, mathematics and business, with a compulsory internship of at least 5 months in the company in the third year. After this degree, Albert School plans four masters: “entrepreneurship”, “blockchain and web3”, “finance and artificial intelligence” and “marketing and artificial intelligence”.
The school has not yet decided which of these four themes will open first. “The first year of one of them will be created at the beginning of the academic year 2023, according to the affinities and wishes of our students”, observes the founder. The “business & data” degree, in three years, has a RNCP level 6 qualification, certifying an equivalent bac + 3.
Finance and convince
Cost of this new school: 12,000 euros per year. To reduce the bill, the institute proposes to carry out the third year of bachelor’s, as well as the master in work-study, in liaison with one of its partners.
“These seven unicorns whose founders have invested all have recruiting needs in the coming years. They love to take turns, because now they need talent. This will allow our students to take their first steps in the business world, while financing their studies ”., comments Grégoire Genest. The first two years would therefore be the only “paying” years for young people. The school has developed partnerships with banks and prepares scholarships for those in need.
How to convince parents when creating a new school in competitive higher education? “Yep, with high-level teachers! Our math teacher, for example, went to Polytechnique and Berkeley and was a data scientist. He co-founded Dailymotion and teaches python at Sciences Po … In business, our speakers work in marketing, finance and are also professors in major schools “, explains Grégoire Genest. Another key issue, its shareholders and associates, whose names want to reassure worried parents.
Objective: to eventually attract 160 students per class, or 800 students in total. It now remains for this new school to prove itself, both in terms of pedagogy and professional integration.
