It is an unmissable event in Hennebont, both for bird breeders and for the general public, which sees the opportunity to admire canaries of all kinds, exotic species, crocuses without forgetting the European fauna. The Blavet Ornithological Association (AOB) organizes, this Friday 11 November, at the Victor-Hugo gymnasium its stock exchange exhibition of cage and aviary birds.
Among the participants, Gérard Le Dorze, a member of the association for more than 25 years, is passionate about birds from an early age. Living in the countryside, he already liked to observe them but his passion for him grew when, in 1995, after a visit to this bag, he bought a couple of cockatiel, Australian parakeets.
“It is an easy to breed, sociable bird that can be tamed,” emphasizes the amateur breeder who now has about thirty birds in his aviaries. He still has cockatiels, a breed he has remained loyal to, but also pennants, diamond doves and even Chinese quail.
Recognized by several awards
Gérard Le Dorze participates in various competitions “to place oneself in relation to others” and continues to improve, for this purpose, the stock of these birds “The goal is to find the best specimen for breeding”. A know-how recognized by several awards. “In cockatiels, the father and mother take turns incubating during the day and it works like a clock. After 19-20 days, the young are born, which are then ringed between the fifth and tenth day. It is a must. After five or six weeks they come out of the nest. You have to be very careful and responsive. This requires a lot of supervision, ”testifies the farmer who had to feed a young man. “He lived 17 years, he spoke, he sang the Marseillaise”.
Hennebontais is inexhaustible on its proteges. A passion and know-how that he likes to share, that’s what he will do with pleasure during the bird market on Friday. “For those who want to start, it is necessary to count, for a couple of cockatiels, from 40 to 50 euros if they are not crowned with prizes, then a budget of 35 euros of seeds for two months (a 20 kg bag). Obviously we must add also the price of the small aviary “.
Stock exchange birds, Friday 11 November, from 9:00 to 18:00, Victor-Hugo gym, rue Léon-Blum. Admission: € 2.50; free for children under 12.
