The Toulouse-based publisher Newboot standardizes the collection of data captured on production machines thanks to its operating system integrated into Internet of Things (IoT) gateways. Founded in June 2020 by two regulars in the start-up world, Julien Morin and Wael Chahrour, it has just completed its first financing for 1 million euros, of which 700,000 euros in equity and 300,000 in loans.
It was the Nova by Saint-Gobain fund that led the round, accompanied by the Swiss Pilot Fish II and the business angels Julien Trassard (Accenture) and Guy Bourdon. With these funds, Newboot will hire six people by spring 2023 to strengthen its technical team and market its system internationally.
Classic IoT solutions provide sensors and a data retrieval platform. If a manufacturer installs multiple devices to monitor part production, energy consumption and machine vibrations, it will have to multiply platforms and interfaces. Newboot has designed an operating system that plugs into the company’s IoT gateway integrating 90% of the machine protocols.

This technical building block captures data from sensors and automata, then sends it to existing business applications for production management, machine maintenance, consumption management and the cloud infrastructures of Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud.
It’s a brick and mortar that requires no proprietary software. Data standardization also allows you to analyze it with AI. St. Gobain it experimented with the system in its factories in Europe and China, before moving into the capital of Newboot. “We are about to sign a three-year contract with Saint-Gobain to equip hundreds of factories around the world”, greets Julien Morin, president.
The company has established partnerships to distribute its Newboot Edge OS solution. Lenovo will ship its IoT gateways with the system pre-installed in 2023 e Microsoft will offer the solution to its industrial customers. It also signed a research contract with Nvidia on building digital twins of production lines with AI. The company also offers the Newboot PaaS solution, which allows you to quickly deploy an internal or hosted IoT infrastructure.
