This is an important recognition for the Lycée Léon Blum du Creusot (Saona-et-Loire). At the end of December, 12 BTS and vocational baccalaureate students received a scholarship of 5,400 euros each. These prizes were awarded by Nuclear Valley, a competitiveness cluster based in Chalon-sur-Saône, which brings together 370 members of the nuclear sector. To obtain this award, young people had to write a motivation letter and pass an oral interview to demonstrate their motivation to pursue a career in the nuclear industry.
The objective of these scholarships is to highlight the career paths of this industry sector. The awarded young people come from the vocational baccalaureate TCI (technician in industrial boilermaking), BTS ENU (nuclear environment) or BTS CRCI (Design and production in industrial boilermaking). This is the second consecutive year that the Léon Blum high school has won scholarships (it had won 5 in 2021).
A dynamic sector
For teachers, these scholarships are a good way to encourage young people to continue this “sector of the future” . “It shows that there are huge needs in the industry. It will allow young people to continue their studies more comfortably and show them that they have made a wise choice by switching to nuclear power. Some will perhaps continue with a license or even in engineering school ”, observes Fabrice Rozalen, teacher at the Léon Blum high school.
The nuclear industry occupies a prominent place at Le Creusot where the Frameoma plant , specializing in the production of large steel forgings and castings. More than 300 people work today for Framatome in Le Creusot.
A “defense class” in September 2023
In addition to the nuclear sector, the Lycée Léon Blum also wishes to open up other professional perspectives for its students. At the start of the school year in September 2023, the institution will launch a “defense class” for second graders. It is a national program that aims to raise awareness army jobs and its values.
“It is a second general class with classic courses, to which we will add a ‘defensive’ colouring. In French, physical education or history lessons, we will deal with issues related to the army. We have also established a program of activities with conferences and visits,” explains principal Marie-Isabelle Gautron-Carlot. For 8 years, the school has also offered a similar second class focused on aeronautics.
The new Le Creusot defense class was launched in collaboration with the departmental military delegation of Saône-et-Loire. He’s the seventh in the department.
