Tehran (IQNA) – An Islamic organization in the United States has converted the verses of the Holy Quran into NFT with the aim of protecting the verses from distortion, for future generations, and to protect the Quran from the risk of tampering.
The “Quran Verse NFT” project carried out by the Islamic Institute “Islamic City”, consisted in converting the entire Koran into “Non-fungible Codes” (NFT) in the blockchain. These NFTs (non-fungible tokens) cannot be changed or deleted once they are on the blockchain and remain permanently stored.
Mohammad Aleem, one of the founders and CEO of Islamic City, said: “In every age the sacred texts have been transmitted through the most modern technologies of the time. In the mid-1400s, Gutenberg did this by inventing the printing press. Then came Internet technology. Now blockchain is the technology of the day. The goal is always the same and it is to preserve these writings and make them widely available to the public. Placing the entire Quran on the blockchain has a distinct advantage over the print and digital version. Thanks to its decentralized nature, the blockchain is insensitive to modification or censorship. “
Jihad Turk, founder and president of the Bayan Islamic Graduate School, said, “Information on a website can be easily deleted or hacked by individuals or governments for a variety of reasons. The blockchain prevents such manipulations. As we continue to convey the Quran through oral traditions and the collective memory of the Muslim community, the blockchain serves as the collective memory of the internet. Using this technology to accurately preserve and present the Quran allows us to fulfill our responsibility to accurately convey this message to humanity. “
Conversion of scriptures on the blockchain is unprecedented, as the Old Testament was converted to NFT last year. This Quranic project contains 6236 NFT in the number of Quranic verses. Each NFT contains contextual and historical information on the respective verses. Islamic City has already sold over 500 NFTs for $ 45,000.
The sale of these NFTs will fund the creation of an independent Islamic metaverse called the “Nation Financing Network” whose goal is to align and empower Muslims around the world to carry out public projects on the web. The first project of this network will be the “Quran + app” program so that the first digital generation can better interact with this sacred book.
