Thanks to the participatory data collected by a user committee, BFMTV.com invites you to visualize the evolution of interruptions on RER A and B over the last ten years.
Crowded platforms, saturated trains, canceled trains… Users of public transport in the Ile-de-France region are confronted daily with the difficulties of the SNCF and the RATP, whether caused by technical problems, passenger accidents or a shortage of drivers. .
If transport has been on the verge of saturation since last September, interruptions have been increasing for 10 years on RER A and RER B. According to participatory data collected by courbis.fr, the RER B users’ committee in the Chevreuse Valley (COURB), consulted by BFMTV.com, RER A encountered 495 serious outages in 2022. A number that rose to 612 for RER B.
612 major interruptions in 2022 on line B
In detail, the two lines are confronted with hundreds of major outages – lasting more than 15 minutes – in peak hours and on working days, per year, and this, since 2012. On this date, according to data listed by COURB , 220 major outages there were disservices on RER B.
A number that evolves from year to year, going from 244 in 2013, 208 in 2014 and only 193 in 2015. However, according to the data, the disturbances have increased again in the following years, reaching 344 in 2018, 460 in 2021 and 612 for the past year.
4052 hours of accidents on RER B in 2022
More broadly, according to COURB participatory data, the cumulative duration of these incidents reached 169 days in 2022, or 4052 hours.
In 2015, the year with the lowest number of accidents, only 452 hours of difficulty were recorded. Also according to the data, this number is reported at 31 days in 2017 and 113 days in 2021.
43 days of outage in 2022 on line A
On the RER A side, users also face severe disruptions during peak hours and on working days.
The figures are slightly lower than the RER B, but still increasing every year. For example, there were 273 major outages in 2019 compared to 377 in 2021. They jumped to 495 in 2022.
More generally, COURB counted 43 days of accidents on the line in 2022, 36 days in 2021.
The cumulative duration reached 77 days in 2020. While the number of major outages was slightly lower in 2020 (351), incidents actually took longer to resolve.
SNCF and RATP identified
The user committee also gathered the reasons for these serious disruptions, particularly if they were caused by external accidents such as weather conditions, technical accidents or by passenger accidents such as malaise.
According to participatory data, the finding is clear. In 2022, transport operators are responsible for 79.9% of major disruptions. An almost similar figure, 10 years earlier, with 79.1% in 2012.
External accidents caused 1% of interruptions in 2022 for line B and only 0.8% for RER A.
For the RER A, 2020 is the year with the greatest disservice coinciding with the operators, up to 76.6%. The lowest figure concerns the year 2021 with only 61% liability for SNCF and RATP, against 37.4% on the passenger side. While in 2022 the responsibility of the RATP and the SNCF for 60.4% of the unrest is being questioned.
However, according to Île-de-France Mobilités, the various RER A branches have been punctual, from the beginning of the year to the end of November 2022, on average at 90%. A percentage estimated at 87.5% for the Cergy-le-Haut branch. Or in the nails of the contract fixed with the transport operator, which imposes a punctuality of 88% for this same branch.
An extraordinary meeting of the Île-de-France Mobilités board is organized this Friday. The purpose of this meeting is to listen to the various transport operators on their production, punctuality and quality of service on the Ile-de-France networks.
