The gigantic construction site of the Palais de la Bourse in Bordeaux has entered its second phase of construction. After the roof of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, it is that of the Customs which will soon regain all its splendour. Matter of enthusiasts.
Construction started in 2019. It will finish in 2024.
In other words, the importance of the renovation undertaken at the Palais de la Bourse, an emblematic monument of Bordeaux.
I love this construction site! I got it from the beginning, I’m hooked and can’t wait to go
Guillaume Lambert, journeyman rooferA France 3 Aquitaine
Exceptional in its scope, the site benefits from equally exceptional scaffolding. In the shape of an umbrellait allows to protect the oak frame without cover, all the slates having been removed to be replaced.
On an area of 4000 m2, they are cut out and fixed one by one with copper screws, more resistant than the hooks of the past.
In total, more than 150,000 slates will be laid.
Roofers, Galvanizers, Stonemasons are mostly Companionsfrom Cognac (SARL Bouchet-Couverture), Lyon (SAS Le Ny) and Bordeaux (Compagnons de Saint-Jacques).
Everyone is aware that their work must last a hundred years!
And like their predecessors, leave traces of their passagenames, dates, little hidden words that will one day delight their successors in this palace built in the 18th century.
If the roof is the largest part, the skylights and the sculptures placed at the top of the facade were also restored.
Beneficiary of this restyling : Customs administrationowner of the left wing of the Palais de la Bourse, the right wing which houses the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The entire re-roofing of the Hôtel des Douanes, but also the switch to LED lights and the replacement of the boiler, are financed by the state under the France Relance and ecological transition plan, a Hight of 5 million euros.
And, as happened for the first phase of work, advertising posters complete this financial system.
We have implemented a provision in the Heritage Code which allows advertising to be displayed and revenue to be taken, which goes towards other work such as interior renovations and security.
Serge Puccetti, Interregional Director of CustomsA France 3 Aquitaine
The goal is to improve the functional organization of spaces and working conditions.
The Palais de la Bourse will house all the services of the Interregional Customs Office of Nouvelle-Aquitaine and the Bordeaux Regional Officecurrently dispersed in several buildings in the center of Bordeaux.
It should be noted that the customs house was present in this historical monument from the very beginning and that a National Museum traces their long history in the Port of the Moon.
